#Black History Month: First Black Female Astronaut “Mae C. Jemison

If you have been watching the news lately, then you would know that they have went to space again and have a rover on mars. I just thought that with all the space news and it being black history month, why not talk about something important. “Mae C. Jemison” was the first black female astronaut. She went to space and saw the beauty of earth. I always say that being the first of anything is an achievement and that is true.

Just like everyone else I have talked about, she to had problems with the police. She accused a police officer of police brutality after he assaulted her for a speeding ticket. The officer wasn’t charged. Sounds familiar right. I swear these officers do not do their jobs. She was arrested while she had head injury’s, so she sued that officer and the city. It didn’t stop her from doing what she loved. She kept moving and she became a legend.

This woman has been all over the place. She went to medical school out of the country, she traveled to help people in Africa and she worked for the CDC. Talk about beauty and brains, geez. She applied and got into the astronaut program in 1987 just after the space shuttle disaster that ended in horror 2 years before. That incident would scar me and I would not do it but that is because I am weak. She was strong and she had worked her whole life to get there and she succeeded. Just thinking about going into space is insane. She had many awards such as woman of the year, ebony black achievement, 50 most beautiful people in the world and so on. There is too many to talk about.

She was a role model to all young girls girls and young girls of color. Just because you look different doesn’t mean you can’t do it. That should make you wanna do it more. If you have a goal, work towards it and you will see results. She is still alive today and will be remembered for beauty, brains, and powerful drive to get what she want.
