#Black History Month: Poet, Author, and Teacher “Gwendolyn Brooks”

Gwendolyn Brooks was the first black author to win the Pulitzer prize for “Annie Allen”. One of my favorite poems were “primer for blacks”. It was so powerful and inspiring. She grew up with prejudice but they just gave her more to talk about. After graduating high school, she wrote for the Chicago Defender which was owned by the one and only Robert S. Abbott. She was also named the Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress. In 1976, she became the first African-American woman inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She had many achievements and she will be missed.
