Happy birthday to one of Americas most influential women during the suffrage movement. It’s crazy how people say she was racist. I didn’t know if she was but during that time she still fought for women rights. You have to give her that. I am a African American woman but I wouldn’t down play her legacy. I love women activist who fight for women rights and are not afraid. Such an amazing legacy she left. You know, her last words before her death were ” Failure is impossible“. That is why we still have people fighting today because no one is giving up. It didn’t say that she was a feminist but I believe that she was one. She fought for equal everything between men and women. Here are a couple of her famous quotes…
- “Independence is happiness”.
- “I declare to you that woman must not depend upon the protection of a man, but must be taught to protect herself, and there I take my stand”.
- “No man is good enough to govern any woman without her consent”.
- “I do not consider divorce an evil by any means. It is just as much a refuge for women married to brutal men as Canada was to slaves of brutal masters”. –Susan B. Anthony
She never married. She wanted to keep working for the rights for women. Even though she died and women still didn’t have the rights to vote during that time period, Im pretty sure she would be happy today. We still have much work to do. –Women Empowerment
